Chang Gao

Chang is a currently a Research Engineer at the Apple Foundation Model (AFM) team, and a Tech Lead in one of the model pillars. Chang designs, develops and deploys multimodal large language models (MLLM), focusing on pre-training, mid-training, post-training, LLM infrastructure, data curation, and model evaluation. Details under NDA.

From 2020 to 2024, Chang was a Tech Lead and Perception Engineer at Waymo, shipping multimodal spatial-temporal algorithms and vision language models (VLMs) to both the autonomous vehicles and the remote cloud services.

Chang obtained his B.Eng in Computer Science at the University of Hong Kong and M.S. in Computer Vision at Carnegie Mellon University. Chang’s research focuses on LLMs, AI/ML, Computer Vision, and Robotics. Chang reviews papers at top AI conference like AAAI, WACV, BMVC. Chang also coaches LeetCode for free.
